Learning Overload--3 Ways to Embrace the Chrysalis

Glisalis Chrysalis Overwhelmed Learning Overload

Overwhelming.

There is so much--SO MUCH to learn. And no time at all.

There's the work that needs to get done for advancing your dream career--then what you learn out of obsession--and what you squirrel away for those future days. So good. So much.

Sometimes... too much.

Glisalis Chrysalis Overwhelmed Learning Overload

Welcome to the corner where we collapse.

(1)

Stop and feel it--this is part of the journey, too. This is the part where you build your chrysalis around you, for a minute, a day... maybe the whole weekend. Maybe more. This part teaches you the biggest lesson.

This is where you learn what matters.

(2)

When it all feels like too much what is that one beach-smoothed rock sparkling in the sun? What holds the sunlight caught in rain puddles?

(3)

What part makes you keep going?

At this point in my life it's enough to know that I have a vision and what I'm devouring in towering piles of pages fits. I know that it will help at least one person--odds are in favor of that. I hope it helps you. And I know it feels like magic.

That's how you know what matters.

That's how you keep building your chrysalis.

What's the most overwhelming part of your learning right now? OR
What keeps you going?

Tell me in the comments below and so we can get pass a little magic dust.

  1. The most overwhelming part of my learning right now is the fear of taking action, and it being way harder than I had imagined! And what keeps me going ... is the vision of having a system in place that makes my life WAY EASIER and allows me to focus only on the things that truly light me up! Great post! Thanks for sharing :)

    1. This floored me--not only that it's you commenting (!!!!) but that taking action does not simply become effortless after having success. I love that. It makes me more hopeful with the mental reframe that everything is a continuous journey.

Thank you for your beautiful comment, Alex!

    1. 18!!! You're insane and I love it! I've always had this mad fantasy of taking 16+ credits but I have yet to take the plunge. I would have to work up to that point for sure. :)

  3. Wow, this is exactly what I've been thinking on today! There's so many times when I'm almost scared to learn knew things because I don't want to even think about all the new possibilities of what I could do with them-it's so easier to get overwhelmed!
The vision is essential for me, what keeps me going. I want to succeed so I can show other girls that were in my place that it really is possible! Thanks for the awesome post :)

    1. Finals are in the air, right?

I really love your commitment to helping other students--it adds a whole other dimension when you're acting towards a bigger purpose. What a beautiful way to live!

Yes, it definitely feels like an impossible feat some days, which is neat to think since getting through proves anything is possible. :)

  4. What a beautifully written post, thanks so much for your poetic and inspiring insight. Right now I'm ovewhelmed by my two jobs, my passions, my relationships, and my ending college semester! Things should be changing soon as classes end, so I just need to focus and keep the vision in mind.

  5. I'm about to graduate next week, so it's overwhelming to know that this kind of learning is over. The classrooms, the tests, that's all coming to an end. It's bittersweet.

    1. I've been thinking about that a lot--I've finished my associates (Liberal Arts) and now that I'm changing majors to finish out I'm nostalgic. It's not over yet but I really will miss the immersion in learning and the environment that comes with it. It's a whole other world when you're around people who are pushing to be their intellectual best.

I've decided to keep taking classes after graduation. Whether they're yoga classes or a random Physics class for fun I don't think I could breathe without working through a course. Would you ever take a course afterward, or do you feel strongly about being done with the struggle of it? That could be a happy middle ground.
